Corporate Policy...neither corporate, nor policy....

Yes, it's been FOREVER since I made a post. Yes, I've been "BUSY". Yes, I forget I even HAVE this thing....but only b/c sometimes my self-diagnosed A.D.D. goes into hyperspeed and everything in my life seems to be either a.) not worth the time, b.) not worth the energy, or c.) too hard to do while I'm drunk. SO, that being said, I DO plan on updating this a bit more, at least over the next couple weeks, because it appears I will have an extraordinary amount of time to bullshit...due to...."corporate policy".

See, it's not that I'm incompetant....quite the opposite, in fact. I have a cum laude Bachelor's Degree in communications...that I completed in 4 years (as opposed to the majority of people that I know who are on the 7 year plan....), a certificate in Commercial Production and Broadcasting from the New School of Radio and Television (was there an "Old" one?), and like to surround myself with people who know a whole bunch about a lotta stuff....In other words, yes, I am very intelligent...I just happened to have been dealt the shitty end of the stick when it comes to the corporate world....

Yes, I was a radio dj for 6 years....yes, I got fired in 2004 from that for absolutely NO reason (NYS is an "at-will" employment state, meaning if your boss is a dick, as most are, they CAN indeed legally tell you to get the fuck out without reason. You cannot sue, you cannot protest, you just have to get the fuck out, without reason. Typically, this type situation occurs when the bosses son/daughter/niece/nephew/aunt/uncle/neighbor/goat hearder needs a job, and being "corporate", they don't really see the effect canning someone's ass has on them....I digress) Anyways, this type situation did indeed happen to me, so I began a new career search.

I landed in the liquor business. Which I loved. I adored. I relished. And the hundreds of dollars in free booze and wine didn't hurt much either. Well, I work(ed) for a distributor, and we lost a MAJOR supplier due to a.) corporate bullshit, and/or b.) politics. This supplier's leaving resulted in a $53million profit loss.

Now, if I lost one of my clients (I have a side business doing copywriting, voiceovers, and marketing consult work)...if I lost one of my clients, I would want to have a "Plan B"...I would want to be aware that looking for more clients immediately should be on my priority list. I would not sell my computer, my car, my dog, my earthly possessions, right off the bat. I would probably take a couple months, examine other options, explore ways I could recoup the cost. Now that's ME, with MY side business, that generates about....$10,000 a year for me.

HOWEVER, in a multi-billion dollar company that I work for, losing $53million worth of business...well it's not exactly a drop in the bucket, but it certainly isn't enough to shut down or start laying people off willy-nilly, but that's what they did. It was disgusting, sad, tragic even...to watch my coworkers who I truly did grow to love as a family (insert collecting "awww...." sound here) randomly get chosen to walk into what I call "the principal's office" (what is actually the VP's office). It was as though my VP was sitting on top of a school holding a loaded shotgun, and just started pegging off kids on the playground at random. "PING!" there goes 3 salesman. "PING!" there goes the Director of Marketing. "PING!" there goes 11 warehouse guys and 3 drivers. "PING!" .....OUCH, what the fuck??? THERE GOES ME!!!

SO, long story short (too late), this company had no "plan B", this company knee-jerked and "layed off" over 15 people, with no rhyme or reason, other than the "last one in, first one out" policy...basically meaning that even if I was overperforming at my job (which I was), I was here the shortest amount of time, so I got...the shitty end of the stick.

Now, if I'm running a multi-billion dollar business....or even if i have a SLIGHT hand in running it, wouldn't I think it a good idea to have a Plan B? Especially when the types of decisions made by suppliers are typically announced MONTHS before they actually pull out? Looks like somebody forgot to salt the popcorn here. When it comes to being kind to employees, this place actually is pretty good. But when it comes to logistical decisions and reality-based ideas, this place really phones it in.

Anyways, more posts coming soon....thanks for checkin up on this one....It may not be as "sassy" as I've been in the past, but what the fuck do you expect? I'm still sitting at work, waiting for my last day (1/27), working on resumes, and mastering the game of solitaire....so anyways, be patient, I shall return.

Until then, I'll take "RUN, FORREST, RUN...THE VP'S ON THE ROOF AGAIN" for $1000, Alex.
